FADI EL HALABI (BELOW) and MAYA NEHEME ''Wheels On Fire'' the 5th Cyprus Salsa Congress
''Since he was a kid, Fadi dreamed of
creating a dance group where people with disabilities or those without
disabilities were able to dance together on stage.
That dream
came true as Fadi and Maya performed the first wheelchair dance show in
Lebanon during the first international salsa festival in Lebanon 2009,
an event organized by Ziad Kassis, that brought together many famous

I have known the founder since she first brought her child to see me for my expertise in the respiratory management of children with a rare condition called Werdnig-Hoffman’s disease. We stayed in touch with the purpose of spreading the knowledge that might spare other children with similar clinical status to suffer the same fate. She has diligently and at her own cost devoted her time to finding the best way in which to carry this out to the best effect. I have seen her research the global situation facing not only charities but societies; I have witnessed her attempt to develop a remarkable and unique hospice and training center in Dubai along with other recognized Doctors who also have stood by and admired her perseverance. Now with this award and with the gradual support from the global media and publishing organizations writers, journalists and the film world she will be able to deliver the critical and necessary information needed by those going through experiences of life change that disability wreaks upon families. This information, it is hoped will be empowering.

Charlotte Wingfield first brought her son to see me many
years ago. She came because she was not prepared for Enrico to be treated as a
second class citizen, a disease with a child attached. He was first and
foremost her son, who happened to have severe spinal muscular atrophy. During
his short life, she looked after him, and advocated for him, in a truly
inspirational manner. Since his tragic death, she has been unflagging in her
efforts to improve the lot of similar children. Thanks to Charlotte, children
with severe spinal muscular atrophy are on the front of the agenda, and not
seen as mistakes to be denied proper care. I thoroughly endorse her award. It
is an honour to know her, and a great privilege to have been some small service
to Enrico. I sincerely hope this award will forward the cause she holds most
dear.

My name is Fadi EL Halabi, I am from Lebanon, I am a TV anchor for a social talk show on Future-News TV as well as counselor for couples and adults. I met Charlotte through global networking. She knew that I am advocating for the inclusion of people with disabilities in all aspects of life, and ever since we have had communication about our mutual interest in how we can promote a positive image of people with disabilities to create both a positive change in individuals lives and the wider community.
I have to say that Charlotte was able to communicate her passion in a unique way and I am sure that her noble mission will reach our hearts and minds because she is a genuinely extraordinary person and her great experience will be a role model very inspiring.

After 30 years working in a pediatric palliative care setting I am more than ever convinced that the real experts are the parents of each unique child. Professionals are always on a steep learning curve. Through the full yet tragically short life of Enrico his mother Charlotte has a wealth of wisdom and experience to share with us. In a culture whose values extol and idolize physical perfection she helps us to see disability in a new way.
